Reedley
drops four straight to end season. 4/27 to 5/4/2010The
Pirates dropped all four the remaining matches to end
their season. The sole wins in those matches were
against Sanger as Reedley came up with two victories in
that match. The boys fell in every match against
Bullard, Clovis North, and even Edison.
Josh Ediger nearly won at number one
singles against co-champs Clovis North. He dropped
a three setter to Ryan 6-2, 1-6, 5-10. Ediger got
close against league Champ Jaramishian from Bullard in
the first set 4-6. Then Bullard's number one
caught fire to retire Josh 1-6 in the decider.
Ediger was in on both wins at Sanger as he won at number
one singles and doubles. He beat Jared Owen in
singles 6-1, 6-2. Finally, Edison dismantled the
Reedley netters without much response. Still the
Pirates struggled on. Tough season, but tougher
boys. We'll get 'em next year.

Rain
out and just missed out. 4/22/2010It
was a wash out due to rain for the tennis Pirates on
Tuesday this week. However, the match against
Hoover went on without much weather except for evening
cold. And, it was a cold which led to Reedley's
4-5 loss, most probably. Captain and senior
inspiration Noe Hernandez was home with a cold.
Still yet, the Pirates fought on
valiantly. Down 4-2 after singles, Reedley netters
rallied in doubles. Josh Ediger and Eliu Baltazar
struggled to a win at number one 6-4, 6-2 over Smith and
Moser. Ryan Casteel and fill-in Doug Franz made
good on their abilities by cruising to a 6-2, 6-2 win at
number three doubles. It was left up to Dana Davis
and Antonio Coria at number two. They duo played
tough, but subsided 2-6, 3-6 to give up the loss to
Hoover. Both teams moved to one win and the rest
losses in CMAC play.

Losses
Mount in League Play. 4/15/2010The
boys lost two matches without much fanfare this past
week. Tuesday, Sanger disappointed the Pirate
netters with a 2-7 trouncing. The only wins came
in Singles as Josh Ediger and number three Wes Ruments
both held on for victories. Ediger won 6-0, 6-1
and Ruments prevailed in a third set tie-breaker
10-8. Good enough.
In the other match, the Pirates were
little trouble for the Edison Tigers. Eliu
Baltazar won at four singles 7-5, 6-3 for the only
Reedley point. Ryan Casteel won his first set, but
dropped the next two in a two hour marathon. There
is some fight in the boys as they ready themselves for
the second half.

Broncos
Ride Roughshod over Pirates. 4/8/2010Reedley
undertook a huge task when they traveled to Clovis North
for the CMAC showdown. Former Pirate and now
Bronco head coach Ross Garner and his team that returned
everyone from last season swept every set in their 9-0
route. The only Pirates close were Josh Ediger who
fell to Brar and bad cramps in his legs, yet mustered a
4-6, 3-6 score. Ryan Casteel was close in number
six singles losing to Ritu Jayakristonen 4-6, 2-6.
The doubles weren't close and Reedley drops to 1-2 in
league. Sanger and Edison await.

So far, no good. 2/25/2010
The Reedley High boys made a poor
showing in their first scrimmage and their season opener
at Sierra High. The Pirates fought furiously to no
avail. In the scrimmage, Noe Hernandez and Wes
Ruments came away with victories, but they were the only
two of the day. In the first match against Sierra,
Josh Ediger won a straight set match against Seth
Peschel of Sierra 6-3, 6-3 for the lone team point as
Reedley fell 1-8. The boys have some improving to
do before league.

Boys Stay Perfect at Clovis Tourney.
3/5&6/2010
The Pirates remained perfect at the
Clovis tourney by losing every team match they
played. Josh Ediger gave the Reedley Netters their
only wins in the tournament against Wasco and Mt.
Whitney number one players. Ediger is a gamer even
when his body doesn't cooperate. After being
rained out against Selma, the Pirates go to Dinuba and
then on to Madera soon after. Good luck, boys.

Pirates
Handled by Emperors 3/10/10The
Reedley Boy's Tennis Team is improving, but the Dinuba
emperors dispatched the inexperienced Pirates 3-6 on
3/10/10. Singles wins came from Josh Ediger and
Noe Hernandez. These two teamed to win a doubles
points also. they are a bright spot to the RHS
tennis team.

Visalia
Champion Pirates 3/13/10The
Pirates won their first match on Saturday at the Visalia
tournament and then went on to win two more en route to
the Tier VI championship. The first team win came
against Fowler in a narrow 4-2 squeaker. Josh
Ediger won 8-0, Wes Ruments held for an 8-3 victory,
both doubles teams also won for the deciders.
Antonio Coria/Doug Franz and Ryan Casteel/Dana Davis
were solid in that match.
The next mission for the Pirates was
to stop Hanford. Ediger defeated Avalos of Hanford
8-2. Ruments remained perfect by topping Reall
8-4. Hirata fell to Cox 6-8, but Hernandez held at
number four against Alves 8-3. Hanford swept the
doubles to tie the match at 3-3. The tie break
came down to games as Coria/Franz scored 6 games in
their match to give Reedley the game count and win at
39-33.
The championship came down to Reedley
vs. Redwood's #2 team. Ediger raced off the court
with an 8-0 over Garcia. Then Ruments won his
third match of the day against Vang 8-5. Hirata
came up short 5-8 versus Garcia. Hernandez came
through with an 8--4 over Coulter. Doubles swept
Redwood 8-6 and 9-7 to give the Pirates a 5-1 victory
and the championship. Congratulations Tier VI
Visalia Champs 2010!

Coyotes
Clobber Pirates 3/16/10
In Madera, the RHS netters only
mustered one win in spirited matches. Noe
Hernandez survived at number five against Ivan Torres in
a third set tie-breaker. It was the closest of
matches at 7-6 (4) 4-6, 10-7. In other singles,
Madera's Sheeter outgunned Ediger 1-6, 1-6. Wes
Ruments fell to Singh with the same scores. Jared
Hirata of Reedley won three games total against Sanchez
of Madera at three. Eliu Baltazar was tough at
number five losing 2-6, 4-6 to Choi. And at number
six Dana Davis fell to Nash 3-6, 1-6. Doubles
ended quickly with Casteel and Franz coming the closest
at 5-8. It was a tough day.

Selma
Routes Reedley 3/19/10
The Pirates only received one win
again on Friday and once again, Noe Hernandez was the
savior. He and Ryan Casteel teamed up to win at
third doubles. The other unfortunate doubles fell
to Selma in abbreviated matches when the team match was
decided in singles. Josh Ediger played an
excellent match against the Spanish phenom exchange
student Alejandro Albondigas 3-6, 6-4, 5-10.
Ediger was down 4-5 in the final tie-breaker when his
served deserted him. None of the other singles
were that close as they all dropped in straight
sets. Better luck in league, Pirates.

Boys
Split 1st Two CMAC Matches 3/23 & 25/10
After being routed by defending CMAC
champs Bullard this past week, the Pirates rebounded
nicely by outlasting Hoover for their first league
win. Although the Pirates were handed a goose egg
in the team scoring, Wes Ruments and Eliu Baltazar were
each able to keep the matches close by scoring 4-6, 4-6,
and 4-6, 2-6 respectively. In the Hoover match
(the first home match of the season) Reedley got wins
from Josh Ediger at number one over Hoover's Mal Smith
3-6, 6-2, 10-7; at number 4 Baltazar beat Valenzuela
4-6, 7-6 (5) 10-8; Noe Hernandez clubbed Trocke 6-2,
6-1; and Ryan Casteel out fought Almanza 6-3, 6-2.
The decider came in doubles when Dana Davis and Antonio
Coria held on against Valles/Rudolf 7-6 (4) 6-4.
Good start, Pirates!
